Trainers

One of the most frequent questions I get asked in the clinic is “What should I wear on my feet?”

This is such a specific question as there are multi-factoral reasons why one shoe might be better than the other.

In this page I will discuss marathon shoes, 5-10km shoes, trail shoes, speed interval shoes, daily shoes and recovery shoes to let you know what is out there.

I will look at the drop which is the difference between the heel height and the toe height. This can have a significant influence on performance but also provocative for certain injuries.

The weight of the shoe is also a key metric as the heavier the shoe the harder you have to work to lift it or more weight to carry when running. Conversely a heavier shoe for trail runner would suggest more support and protection.
