A Crisp Autumn Run Around Loch Kinord: A Deeside Runners 10K Adventure

As we arrived at the Dinnet Hall, the chill in the air served as a reminder that autumn had officially descended upon us. The surroundings were adorned in vibrant hues of red and gold, and there was a sense of anticipation that only comes with a crisp autumn morning.

My parents, Dad and Mum, had kindly picked me up in the trusty van, and we embarked on a scenic drive to Loch Kinord, the setting for the Loch Kinord 10K race. The journey itself was an experience, with the picturesque landscape serving as a perfect prelude to the upcoming adventure.

Upon arrival, I registered for the race and picked up my race number. I took a moment to study the map, mentally preparing for the course that lay ahead. With my kit ready, I joined the other eager participants, including the familiar faces of the Rebel squad: Steve and Rob Taylor, Alice & Tom, both Big and Fast Craigs, Rebecca Watt, and many other enthusiastic runners.

The race kicked off on the road for the initial 800 meters, but it wasn’t long before we transitioned onto a farm track, traversing undulating fields. The route was both challenging and exhilarating, a perfect match for the autumn ambiance.

Reaching the new path around the loch at the 3-kilometer mark was a welcome sight. The absence of roots and stones underfoot allowed for smoother and more comfortable running. The course then took us up through the farmyard and across a field to the horse trial area, leading us around derelict buildings before the true challenge began at the 5-kilometer mark.

From that point on, I pushed hard, navigating the hilly terrain. The legs, although feeling tight, were resilient, refusing to give in. Over roots and stones, we continued our journey around the loch, with undulations that seemed endless.

The final stretch led us through a captivating wooded area, characterized by lumps and bumps that tested our mettle. Crossing a bridge, I mustered all the energy I had left for a spirited sprint to the finish line.

In the end, I secured the 6th position among the middle-aged men and placed 18th overall, completing the race in an impressive 46 minutes and 50 seconds. It was a testament to the training and dedication put into my running journey.

Post-race, the goodie bag provided a delightful surprise. It included cheese, transfers, sweet bakes, and sweeties, a perfect reward for the physical exertion during the run.

A massive thank you is in order to the Deeside Runners and the dedicated volunteers who made this event possible. Their hard work and commitment are what make races like this a memorable and enjoyable experience for all participants.

As I reflected on the day’s adventure, I couldn’t help but appreciate the beauty of autumn and the sense of accomplishment that comes with crossing the finish line. The Deeside Runners 10K around Loch Kinord was more than just a race; it was an opportunity to connect with nature, challenge my limits, and celebrate the spirit of the running community. It’s a memory that will stay with me as I eagerly anticipate the next autumn run.
