Fraserburgh Half Marathon

The sun shone brightly in the Broch today and we were treated to a dry run, cold but dry! After Aviemore Half Marathon I wanted to go under the 1:40:00 mark again to discount the large aspect of Aviemore being downhill.

I had plugged in my anticipated pace to a few calculators and wanted to go out in roughly 48:00 /49:00 to give myself a good chance so there fore wanted to keep my start pace 4:45min/km. This was 15s quicker than Aviemore but felt it was not too much of an ask.

I set off and my pace was good and felt comfortable up until 10km where I felt at halfway that I wanted to push a little more. In the back of my head Claire Smiths #marathon spotlight advice to stick to the plan was buzzing in my head but I decided to give a little push. The miles disappeared over the hilly but beautiful countryside backdrop and even the muddy section on the railway line didn’t slow the pace.

The long home straight under the speed camera and up the road past the tennis courts seemed to last a long time and halfway along I started to doubt if I had increased the speed too much. Entering the arena was amazing!! There was so much support from Metros and Rebels that had finished or supported that it was hard not to burst the gut to try and keep the tempo. The finish was once around the 400m track which was a joy to run on, so springy.

Finished in 1:34:44 by watch which puts it at 37s outside my PB from 2012 but 4mins off of Aviemore which makes me delighted. Training going well! Now for the next block, maintain the progress built over the festive period, Iceland and Potential work trips.

Thanks to the amazing support, volunteers and to Fraserburgh Running Club for organising!!!

Thanks for reading.

Run Long and Prosper
